Sheep and Lamb market slightly easier at Ballarat

Lamb numbers decreased to 35,000, the quality was plain to very good, the heavy export lambs were exceptional to the plainer unfinished trade and light weight lambs. All the usual buying group attended in a firm to easier market. Light and medium trade lambs sold firm to $3/head easier, heavy trade were firm to $5/head softer. Export lambs sold firm to $2/head cheaper with extra heavy lambs sold to a top of $298/head. Not the demand from feeders and restockers this week, with light weight lambs back to the paddock sold from $110 to $186/head to be $6/head easier in places. Lambs suiting MK orders sold from $134 to $164/head.

Lambs to the trade 18 to 22kg sold from $159 to $187, 22 to 24kg, made from $186 to $201/head to range from 773c to 875c to average 800c to 850c/kg cwt. Lambs 24 to 26kg selling from $187 to $215/head, to average 785c/kg cwt. Export 4 score 26 to 30kg lambs, sold from $203 to $233 to average 770c and over 30kg sold from $235 to $298/head to average an estimated 750c/kg cwt. Merino lambs sold from $104 to $226/head to average 740c to 780c/kg cwt.

A smaller yarding of 7,000 sheep this week, most of the processors were present but not all were active, this reflected in the market. HeavyMerino wethers over 24kg sold from $166 to $215, back $9/head with lighter weights making from $135 to $168, $7/head easier to average 650c to 680c cwt. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $170 to $210, firm to $6/head cheaper to average 660c/kg and heavy crossbred ewes made from $166 to $250/head holding mostly firm to a few dollars easier to average 600c to 620/kg cwt. Rams sold to $150 for Merino‘s and crossbred's to $145/head
