Farm Tender

Separating the business from the land

By Sam Marwood - Cultivate Farms

We have been thinking about the ways that you can demonstrate to retiring farmers and investors that you are a great operator so that they might want to get to know you and then hopefully help you onto a farm.

We are thinking that we need to help you distinguish between the farm business and the land. At the moment our focus has been on presenting farm pitches which encompass the farm, farmer and food. But we are thinking now that we should focus on the Farmer and Food in your proposals and in your farmer profile, which you can then use to demonstrate your capacity in running a farm. Then it is just a matter of finding the land that your business operations can be placed on.

I think this distinction could help to clarify what you should be doing as an aspiring farmer to demonstrate you are ready for a farm. You don’t have to wait around to find the right bit of land, you can get cracking on your farm pitch (using our template) which you can then shop around to everyone you know to demonstrate you are ready to get on a farm.

What do you think? Would love your feedback on this approach. We believe it is going to be our new approach from here on in.

We are learning so much as we build this business and we feel this is another defining moment in understanding how we can get you onto your own farm quicker.
