Self-sufficient in 4 to 5 years - I watched a reply of the Rob Dawes interview from FarmTender2024 yesterday, and one thing stood out. You can buy a video of the FarmTender2024 event here.
I asked him how come we have trouble getting Urea and Fertiliser manufacturing off the ground here in Australia. There's always been plenty of talk but not much action. His reply was that within 4 to 5 years, we would be self-sufficient in Urea here in Australia. That is very encouraging news.

However, he did stipulate that because Urea was a global commodity with a global price, it would be pinned to that, so we won't get any favours just because it's produced here.
And you would think that by producing it here, we would be less vulnerable on the logistics side of things. Take Shipping away, currency challenges and dealing with international suppliers should make a difference. I just hope Rob is right and we can get something underway. It would change the landscape, I reckon. Do you think buying Urea and Fertiliser locally would give Australian Agriculture an added advantage? Reply to dwaind@farmtender.com.au
