It was a robust sale in a larger yarding, despite the absence of major supermarket participation. One of the most striking features of the offering was the dryness prevalent across all the young lamb classes. The scarcity of fresh lambs contributed to the overall strength of the market, as buyers were keen to secure lambs with shape and finish. Additionally, the supply of heavy export types was limited, further intensifying competition amongst export buyers.
A total of 30,000 new season lambs were presented, with nearly 50% in store condition. In the trade sale, prices were solid, with some odd lambs fetching above 900c/kg. Trade lambs weighing between 20-24kg commanded prices ranging from $155 to $218, averaging between 840-858c/kg. Meanwhile, lambs in the 24-26kg fetched prices from $210 to $246, averaging 885c/kg cwt.

However, the export sale presented a slightly different picture. Not all buyers were active, leading to a price slip of $12, primarily driven by weight-related factors. Despite this, the bulk of export lambs sold for prices ranging from $231 to $265, with a standout pen over 30kg reaching $268/head. Old trade lambs and export lambs were in limited supply, selling between $157 and $200. Heavy old lambs, achieved prices ranging from $226 to $244/head. Merino lambs found plenty of buyers, with prices ranging from $146 to $215/head.
It was a mixed yarding of mutton and not all export buyers were operating across heavy categories. Heavy mutton sold to strong northern competition with other processors struggling to pay prices offered. Heavy mutton sold from $78 to $135 with good runs of heavy sheep averaging 320c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino wethers in a big skin sold to $130 to average 308c/kg cwt. Trade sheep met more buyers although prices remained firm to a few dollars cheaper. Trade sheep sold from $65 to $90 averaging 288c/kg cwt.
