Respect the try - I was reading the business media this morning about the collapse of Milkrun, a business that was delivering groceries within 20 minutes or less. They went kaput this week after running out of money.
The vision was bold by a young entrepreneur who had already co-founded a successful business (Koala Mattresses). One start, for one win, why wouldn't you back the guy? One reporter said it was a big undertaking that never worked, but you have to "respect the try", he said. Those words resonated with me.
It's probably an Aussie thing. We get caught up in worrying about what others think before we even try something. Therefore, we tend to take fewer risks, and, therefore, we don't get out of our zone to make things happen.
As Farmers, we are pretty big risk-takers, but we still all worry too much about what the neighbours might think, which might be holding some of us back. So next time someone puts themselves out there and has a go and fails, rather than criticise or ridicule their efforts, it might be better to respect the try.
