Prices up in a light yarding at Bendigo

Yarding - 9200 (-19,300).
Lambs - 7450 (-11,050)
Sheep - 1750 (-8250).

Agents yarded 7,450 lambs and 1,750 sheep at Bendigo for the first sale of the new year. The offering of lambs ranged from plain to excellent with the shorn lambs being the better quality over all. The offering of sheep was good for the small number penned, with all weights and grades available. Not all the regular buyers were in attendance or fully active. there was some limited restocking competition in a sale that was very strong over all categories being $20/head stronger and more in places with a lot of lambs making in excess of $9.00/kg cwt. The sheep were fully firm on last years sale results.

Light 12 to 18kg lambs on offer made from $138 to $155/head, averaging from 850c to 1,050c/kg cwt. The light trade weight lambs 18 to 22kg sold from $155 to $185/head, to average from 840c to 950c/kg cwt. The medium trade weight lambs 22 to 25kg made from $186 to $233/head, to average from 880c to 950c/kg cwt. Heavy trade weight lambs 26 to 30kg and over made to $255/head, to average from 790c to 880c/kg cwt. The 3 score hoggets sold to $177/head.

Heavier ewes made to $220, with the better well covered Merino wethers making to $226/head, the general run of mutton made from 500c to600c/kg cwt. Terminal sires sold to $70 and Merino rams made to $140/head.
