Lamb supplies declined on the back of last week’s price correction. The quality of the new season lambs was exceptional over trade categories while heavy lambs lacked the weight of the previous week. Most old lambs were only fair with quite a tail to the offering. A few more restockers entered the market due to bigger numbers under 18kg carcass weight. A full field of buyers were in attendance however not all exporters operated.

In the trade market major domestic processors dominated over the better presented well finished trade lambs 21 to 24kg. Prices improved over all categories from $3 to $5/head. New season lambs 22 to 24kg reached $194/head to average 770c/kg cwt. Merino trade lambs sold to strong competition. The bulk of these lambs made from $166 to 177/head. There was a mixed selection of lambs to suit restockers, most weighed below 18kg cwt. The general run sold from $135 to $177/head. A full field of export buyers were at the rail however not all companies operated. Due to the reduced numbers, extra heavy lamb prices rallied $15 to $21/head. New season lambs 26 to 30kg carcass weight sold from $208 to $228/head. Lambs weighing in excess of 30kg cwt ignited the bidding making from $233 to $255/head to average731c/kg cwt. Extra heavy Merino lambs were keenly sought by a Victorian processor selling at $198 to $234/head.

It was a very good yarding of sheep and not all buyers operated. Heavy ewes sold to strong northern demand to average 647c/kg. HeavyMerino wethers lifted $19 selling from $200 to $233/head. Trade gained $13 selling from $154 to $158/head.
