Prices rise on increased numbers at Ballarat

Yarding - 27,756 (+12,956).
Lambs - 16,505 (+4505).
Sheep - 11,251 (+8451)

Lamb supply increased to 16,505 yarded the quality was mixed through all weights and grades. All the usual buying group attended, but not all were active in a very strong market to see increased prices of $10 to $15/head across the yarding. Young lambs sold to a top of $240, old heavy lambs sold to a top of $280/head.

Feeders and restockers weren’t as active this week with lambs back to the paddock selling from $52 to $160/head. Young lambs to the trade18 to 22kg sold from $148 to $192, 22 to 24kg sold from $180 to $211 and 24 to 26kg sold from $209 to $215/head with a range of 767c to887c, to average between 820c to 830c/kg cwt. Export 26 to 30kg, sold from $220 to $240 to average 800c/kg cwt. Heavy old lambs sold strong sold from $197 to $280/head. Merino lambs under 18kg sold from $100 to $146 and 18kg and over sold from $146 to $212/head.

Sheep supply also increased to 11,251 yarded. The quality very good across the yarding with a nice lines of Merino wethers with plenty of weight. Strong competition across the yarding causing the market to increased up by $15 to $20/head and more in places on last weeks levels. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $150 to $225/head, to average around 650c/kg cwt. Heavy crossbred ewes sold from $143 to $236/headto average 590c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino wethers sold from $160 to $257 and lighter weights sold from $108 to $162/head averaging 660c/kg cwt
