Price gains for Sheep and Lambs at Wagga Wagga

Yarding - 31,500 (+5810).
Lambs - 26,000 (+5200).
Sheep - 5500 (+610)

Lamb supplies lifted and so did quality, with more lambs in shorter skins across trade and heavy lamb classes and presenting with plenty of finish . Most trade and heavy lambs were shorn and grain assisted. Heavy and extra heavy lamb numbers increased with bigger supplies over 30kg carcase weight. A full field of buyers were in attendance and all were operating.

In the trade market major domestic processors dominated and were forced up into heavy lamb categories due to the limited supplies. Lambs weighing 22 to 24kg, sold $9/head dearer to average 930c/kg cwt. Merino trade lambs sold to a small group of buyers and all categories sold to stronger competition to average 808c/kg cwt. Young lambs returning to the paddock and to feed on sold from $135 to $195/head. There was a full field of export buyers in attendance and this week all were operating. Heavy lambs gained $6/head to average 899c/kg cwt. Extra heavy lambs were keenly sought with prices generally $5 to $10/head dearer. Lambs over 30kg carcase weight sold from $255 to $295/head. A single pen of lambs weighing 38kg recorded a top price of $319.20/head.

It was another mixed quality yarding of mutton, with heavy sheep in greater supply. Heavy ewes sold to strong demand lifting $12 to $17/head to average 690c/kg cwt. A single pen of heavy crossbred ewes recorded a top price of $295/head. Trade sheep prices fluctuated making from $134 to $158/head.
