Newly formed Sheep Producers Australia searching for a CEO

The Board of Sheep Producers Australia will start its search for a Chief Executive Officer this week to lead the recently formed organisation as it represents the interests of the nation’s lamb and sheepmeat producers both within Australia and overseas.

President Allan Piggott said the organisation is coming to the end of a six-month transition period after implementing new governance structures and processes, following consultation with the industry.

“SPA was launched in November 2017, replacing Sheepmeat Council of Australia, following adoption of a new governance framework and transition to a company limited by guarantee,” Mr Piggott said.

“Since former CEO Dr Kat Giles resigned in November, we welcomed Sue Dillon as General Manager – Policy and Projects on temporary assignment and appointed Executive Chair Chris Mirams to manage the organisation through its transition to a company limited by guarantee. The assistance of both during this transition period has been invaluable.

“We are now looking to appoint a CEO and have that person in place for 2018-19 to carry on the important policy and advocacy work of SPA.

“The CEO will report to the board and have full responsibility for management of the day-to-day operations of SPA’s business and staff through to the broader strategy of the industry through the Sheep Industry Strategic Plan.

“The successful candidate will have a strong capacity for strategic vision and leadership, expertise in stakeholder engagement, governance, finance and risk management as well as previous industry experience.”
