New season Lamb prices unchanged at Wagga Wagga

Yarding - 42,750 (+9900).
Lambs - 34,350 (+7750).
Sheep - 8400 (+2150).

Lamb supplies increased on the back of last weeks significant prices rises. New season lamb supplies jumped to 18,200. Quality was excellent over trade and heavy lamb categories. Most old lambs were grain assisted or finished off crops. Heavy and extra heavy lambs numbers declined slightly. Restocker found it difficult to operate with most lambs young lambs weighing above 21kg carcase weight. A full field of buyers were in attendance and all were operating.

Trade lambs continued to sell to solid competition, with major domestic processors dominating the market. New season lambs 22 to 24kg were unchanged making from $153 to $168, to average 670c/kg cwt. Prices for old trade lambs was erratic throughout the sale. Lambs 21 to24 kg cwt sold from $136 to $158/head, with the bulk averaging 620c/kg cwt. Merino trade lambs sold to mixed price trends depending on which company. The bulk of the trade lambs sold from $136 to $158/head. Lambs suitable for restockers were in short supply making from$133 to $147/head.

A full field of buyers were at the rail along with a processor who returned after a six week absence. Heavy and extra heavy lamb prices bounced around depending on weight. Lambs 26 to 30kg sold from $160 to $206/head, to average from 580c to 624c/kg cwt. Lambsweighing in excess of 30kg cwt were keenly sought selling from $183 to $228/head, averaging 583c/kg cwt. Heavy merino lambs sold from$168 to $198/head.

It was a good quality yarding of mutton with heavy sheep well supplied not all buyers operated across heavy classes. Heavy ewes sold to weak demand slipping $6 to $14/head to average from 456c to 486c/kg cwt. Heavy wethers were in reasonable numbers averaging 460c/kg cwt. Trade sheep were limited averaging 517c/kg cwt.
