Yarding: 30,000
Lamb Supply slipped this week on the back of last weeks cheaper sale, quality was mixed and the yarding mostly consisted of light store and lambs lacking finish due to the colder wet spring conditions. All the usual buying group attended, but bidding was erratic throughout with the market stating stronger on the lighter and store lambs to soften, as store buyers were selective on quality when bidding and didn’t have any urgency. Bidding was erratic and gain momentum as the sale progressed on the heavy trade and export lambs.
Very light and light trade lambs sold to $6 cheaper, medium trade sold firm, heavy trade was $8 to $12/head dearer. Heavy export sold to a top of $270/head to sell firm to a few dollars softer. Young lambs sold to the trade under 18kg from $82 to $129, trade lambs 18 to 22kg made from $126 to $172, 22 to 24kg sold from $160 to $190 and 24 to 26kg made from $190 to $222/head with a wide range of 680c to 780c/kg cwt. Heavy export lambs 26kg and over sold from $218 to $270/kg.
Sheep numbers dropped to 4,352 yarded, quality was plain to very good. Not all buyers were active, there was more competition with sale bouncing throughout, overall the market ended to $5 dearer and in places $10/head on the light and trade weight sheep while heavy mutton remained similar to last weeks levels. Merino wethers sold from $48 to $139/head. Merion ewes sold from $50 to $121 and crossbred mutton sold from $43 to $125.
