More coffins than cradles: US publication AgWeb has outlined just how far the Chinese population "could" fall from this time on. Read the article here. If the facts are right, this will have an effect on Australian Agriculture (and others) over time.
The UN's World Population Prospects reports that the base outlook is for China's population to drop around 50% to 771 million (currently 1.4 billion approx) by 2100. Most of this can be attributed to their one-child policy, which remained in place for nearly 40 years.
What effect does this have on Australian Agriculture? We need to become less reliant on China, which has been forced upon us in a roundabout way. I mean, 2100 is a long way away, so they are still going to consume a lot in between time.
Africa is the sole region to have robust population growth over the next 30-70 years. Their population is set to hit 4 billion by 2100, up from 1.5 billion today. I guess you look no further than there...
