Lambs softer, Mutton stronger at Ballarat

Yarding - 28,161 (+3961).
Lambs - 18,299 (+466).
Sheep - 9862 (+3495)
Lamb supply increased slightly to 18,300 yarded. The quality was plain to very good across all weights and grades. All the usual buying group attended and operated in a mostly softer market across all categories. Light lambs back to the paddock and MK orders sold firm to $5/headeasier. Medium trade sold $5 to $10 cheaper and heavy export lambs sold $10 to $15/head back on last week's levels. Lambs sold to a top of $222/head.
Feeders and Restockers were active on the lightweight lambs back to the paddock, under 20kg selling from $109 to $156 and 20kg and oversold from $152 to $186/head. Lambs suiting MK orders under 18kg sold from $125 to $146/head. Lambs to the trade 18 to 22kg sold from$145 to $172, 22 to 24kg, sold from $168 to $194 and 24 to 26kg sold from $188 to $200/head with a range of 708c to 796c, to average748c/kg cwt. Export 26 to 30kg, sold from $195 to $222/head to average 725c/kg cwt. Heavy old lambs sold from $98 to $216/head with limited numbers and quality to last week. Merino lambs under 18kg sold from $98 to $150 and 18kg and over sold from $159 to $170/head.Hoggets sold to $189 for crossbreds and Merino’s sold to $174/head.
Sheep supply also increased to 9,862 yarded, the quality was excellent across the yarding with an exceptional line of Merino wethers with plenty of weight offered. Strong competition saw a $10/head stronger market on last week’s levels and more in places. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $161 to $236/head, to average around 675c/kg cwt. Heavy crossbred ewes sold from $160 to $251/head, to average 630c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino wethers sold from $165 to $244 and lighter weights sold from $94 to $155/head, averaging 676c/kg cwt.
