Lamb supply nearly halved on a week ago dropping back to 8,500 head. There was a good run of heavy fed lambs over 30kg cwt, however quality and weight quickly declined and there was only limited numbers of neat trade lambs to suit top end domestic orders. Price results did vary around weight and quality. Processing lambs weighing above 24kg cwt were firm to $5 dearer, while plain light lambs under 20kg cwt were $5 to $20/head cheaper.

Heavy export lambs received the most consistent demand and sold from $238 to a top of $285, some stronger sales of pens in the 30-34kg cwt range helping lift the estimated cost to 780c to 800c/kg cwt. The better finished heavy crossbred lambs 26-30kg from $214 to $250 and the heavy tradeweights, 24-26kg from $200 to $218, these categories estimated at 800c to 820c/kg cwt. But there was still a lot of plainer style processing lambs, often in long and untidy skins, which varied from $170 to $225/head to remain in a range of 720c to 780c/kg cwt.

Lightweight or secondary trade lambs lost momentum to both processors and restockers and were significantly cheaper in places, varying from $80 to $155/head for most. Tradeweight Merino lambs sold to $186/head and like the crossbreds, price trends for the better finished types were modestly dearer.

Just 4,000 sheep were yarded. Export competition for heavy mutton remained keen and big crossbred ewes sold from $198 to a top of $250/head. Heavy Merino wethers sold from $203 to $233/head. Good lines of mutton were estimated to be costing processors from 600c to 650c/kg cwt.
