Is your best still yet to come? - We wrote about the art of batting in The Farmers Club newsletter a week or so back. It was based on how you get to a point where you peak in your batting career, and from that point on, things start to wane.
It could be the same in Farming or business; you could ask yourself, have you peaked, or is the best still yet to come? What generally happens in Farming is that from our 30s to 50s, we are able to keep up with all the changes within the industry. From about 50s onwards, we tend to struggle with newer technologies, and things start to pass us by. And by the time we get into our 60s, there is a limitation as to what we can do.
That might sound pretty harsh, but as we get older in this game, we move from generalist to specialist and then keep refining from there. But that doesn't mean that great things can't happen in those latter years.
On a personal note, I still reckon my best business achievement hasn't happened yet. I have a little bit of an idea of what it might be, but if you had asked me 6 months ago, I wouldn't have known. So when you think about your own standing in Farming or in business, do you reckon the best is still to come or has that one already been achieved? Reply to dwaind@farmtender.com.au
