Heavy Ewes lift $20/head at Wagga Wagga

Yarding - 25,690 (-16,310).
Lambs - 20,800 (-13,200).
Sheep - 4890 (-3110)
Lamb supplies declined and so did quality, with more lambs lacking finish. Most of the better presented trade and heavy lambs were shorn and grain assisted. Heavy and extra heavy lamb numbers dipped noticeably, with only limited supplies over 30kg carcase weight. A full field of buyers were in attendance however not all major export companies operated fully.

In the trade market, major domestic processors led the way and were forced up into heavy lambs due to the limited supplies of well finished lambs. Lambs weighing 22 to 24kg, were unchanged to average 897c/kg cwt. Merino trade lambs sold to a small group of buyers and all categories sold to stronger competition to average from 757c to 768c/kg cwt. Young lambs returning to the paddock sold to only a few buyers making from $125 to $164/head. Lambs to feed on sold from $174 to $198/head. There was a full field of export buyers in attendance however, a few buyers didn’t operate fully. Heavy lambs eased $2/head to average 872c/kg cwt. Extra heavy lambs were keenly sought with prices generally unchanged to a few dollars cheaper. Lambs over 30kg carcase weight slipped $13/head to average 799c/kg cwt. A single pen of lambs weighing 35kg recorded a top price of $275/head.

It was another mixed quality yarding of mutton, with heavy sheep in reduced supply. Heavy ewes sold to strong demand lifting $20/head to average 641c/kg cwt. A single pen of heavy crossbred ewes recorded a top price of $280/head. Heavy wethers were in reasonable numbers averaging 662c/kg. Trade sheep were limited averaging 579c/kg cwt.
