For the fortnight up to the 10th of January 2022.
By Dwain Duxson
It's been nearly a month since our last report, and to tell you the truth, it's been fairly quiet on the Hay front.
Many had a big spring, so some decent feed was carried through to Summer, and Livestock haven't needed much supplementary Feeding. However, that is about to change as we are in for some real Summery weather over the next couple of weeks.
There seems to be a bit more of a focus on Feed Grains right now, with Lupins, Feed Barley and Beans being popular amongst buyers with Livestock.
There seems to be quite a bit of Straw around post-Harvest, and although the demand is not there yet, this could change depending on how the Autumn pans out. But having some decent Straw around will be a huge asset if we get a tighter season ahead.
There is a bit of localised movement of Rolls.
It's only a short report this time, but we should have more information in our next report.
What's happened to Hay prices over the last fortnight?
We will bring you some Hay pricing in a fortnight's time.
We go around the grounds to see what our Farm Tender Salespeople have to say:
Paul Grayling - Mallee, Vic based
Paul said - Paul is away on leave at the time of writing.
Shane Ruyg - Qld based
Shane said - A slow start to the year for the Hay job, with only small amounts moving currently. The late finish, Harvest and the cooler type weather are some of the factors as to why the Hay job is where its at. We are getting a lot of Straw listings currently, and we have had some sales, but again only smaller type parcels. Looking into the Crystal ball, I see that Hay will most likely start moving from April onwards when we are getting into the cooler months.
Mike Pickard - Travelling around
Mike said - Speaking with a few locals around Northern New South Wales and Southern Queensland, there seems to be a lot more emphasis on Hay this year, especially Straw. There appears to be a fair bit available locally as people make the most of their Crops. In the south, Hay is starting to get enquired on mainly Rolls at this stage as people are starting to think ahead to Autumn and Winter. A little bit of uncertainty regarding pricing and the quality of Hay is making it difficult to put a price on it.
