For the love of the Green Steiger - Some things in Ag are just iconic. Many of these iconic things don't start out aiming to be; they just tickle peoples fancy for some reason and end up being iconic. The Green Steiger is one of those.

I was talking to an old Farming mate yesterday, and we got on the subject of the types of Machinery we used to have. He was telling me about the fleet of Tractors and Combines they had, and they decided in 1977 to take the plunge and buy a Steiger Bearcat 4WD Articulated Tractor. They soon worked out how efficient the big girl was, so they bought another one the next year.

It's a similar story on our Farm where we sold 13 Super 90 Chamberlain Tractors (my Grandfather Errol had a fetish for them) and bought a Massey Ferguson 1505 4WD articulated Tractor in 1977, too. Whilst the old Masseys are long gone, the Green Steigers are still hugely popular. On our Farm Tender site, we have sold dozens of them over the years.

The Header equivalent is Case 2388, but people buy them more from a practical point of view, whereas the Green Steiger is more for the love; they have just gotta have one. Do you have a Green Steiger story? Reply to dwaind@farmtender.com.au
