Over the last 6-8 weeks Fertiliser prices have continued to fall, it was only back in Aug/Sept that the price of MAP was $1425 per tonne and DAP $1515 but both of these products are now priced at $1230.00 per tonne. They have slowly been softening in price of $20 to $30 per week. But, before the relentless wet weather and the devastating loss of Crops, it was expected that MAP re, buy price for summer Crop would be north of $1600.00 per tonne.
So how much does the demand of Fertiliser have on the price? Back in July/August this year Urea was selling at $1100 - $1150 per tonne, supply was an ongoing nightmare and during this period it managed to jumped within a few days from the mid $1100’s to the low $1300’s per tonne. It was needed so growers paid what they needed to secure it.
My point to this is, is now the right time to think about what is needed for next year before the demand hits and we see those prices shoot back up again?
