Yarding - 42,000
Numbers declined and demand lifted over a good quality yarding. Major domestic buyers and a southern processor stepped up into the fray for all nicely presented shorn lambs 21 to 26kg. Export processors bidded enthusiastically for all lambs weighing more than 30kg carcass weight. Prices reached $300 for a pen estimated to weigh 40kg cwt. Not export buyers made it to the sale. Quality across trade classes was very good and buyers competed in a stronger market, with shorter skinned types paid a premium. Price gains of $6 to $10 was common. Trade lambs 21 to 24kg sold from $175 to $214/head.
Store lambs from $70 to $135/head. There was little competition for light processing lambs which was reflected in the bigger than usual price variations. Prices ranged from $70 to $134/head. In the heavy export market quality and weight were once again determining price outcomes, with notable price spikes for super heavy pens. Buyer competition ramped up for grain assisted shorter skinned types. The bulk of the heavy export lambs were $5 to $9/head dearer. 26kg to 30kg sold at $214 to $250/head. Over the 30kg cwt topped at $300 to average 789c/kg cwt.
The sheep market operated with less major export processors. Heavy ewes sold from $80 to $140/head. Trade ewes sold to erratic bidding with restockers also operating. Trade sheep sold between $65 and $74/head. Merino wethers sold at $70 to $140/head
