Yarding - 9600

Prices continued to fall despite supply being reduced to 5,400 lambs and 4,200 sheep. It was the smallest lamb yarding seen at Bendigo since the troubled Covid times of early January when abattoir kills were disrupted. Around five processing orders were absent and other buyers just picked through the offering. The very best processing lambs were $5 to $8 easier but these sales were in the minority. The general run of lambs lost another $10 to $20 per head, with competition the weakest for plain and light lambs under 20kg cwt. There was less weight and quality across the yarding compared to recent weeks.

There wasn't many heavy export lambs on offer but the 30kg plus pens still struggled at $192 to a top of $212/head with just six sales managing to break the $200/head mark. The heavy 26-30kg cwt lambs $154 to $199, the 24-26kg pens $154 to $180 and the 22-24kg $132 to $168/head. Broken down by carcass price the very best crossbred slaughter lambs were at a estimated 680c to 720c/kg, but the general run of lambs were mostly between 570c to 640c/kg cwt. Buyer competition for plain and light lambs under 20kg cwt was limited at $50 to $125/head and the majority of sales were below the 500c thresh-hold. Well finished Merino lambs sold from $159 to $192 and were in a similar carcass price band to the general run of crossbreds.

The first new season unshorn lambs appeared, sent down from Hay in the Riverina of NSW. The lead pen of crossbreds were in fresh condition at an estimated 19kg cwt and sold for $147/head. Some lighter weighted young little Merino lambs off the same property $76 to $99/head, the majority selling to a paddock order from Swan Hill.

All sheep grades were cheaper with the general run of mutton estimated from 420c to 520c/kg cwt. Heavy sheep $139 to a top of $172 with plainer trade and light sheep from $51 to $120/head.
