Agents yarded approximately 40,000 lambs after having a break due to Anzac Day. Quality again varied from plain to very good. There was a large number of lambs lacking finish which did suit the restockers and the usual buying gallery operated. There was also some well presented heavy and trade weights penned. Demand was weaker compared to a fortnight ago as the heavy lambs and the medium trade weights were $5 to $10 cheaper. Although there were some sales of the better quality that sold unchanged to $5/head easier. Plainer lambs were from $10 to $15/head cheaper. Suitable lambs to the restockers sold close to firm.
Restockers purchased light lambs from $30 to $118 and better store lambs from $108 to $150/head. Light lambs sold from $61 to $125, light trade made $119 to $145 and the medium trade lambs sold from $131 to 159/head. Heavier trade weights made from $135 to $179/head. The costs for the good quality lambs varied from 640c to 720c/kg cwt. Heavy lambs made $163 to $218 and the extra heavy lambs sold from $218 to a top of $269/head. Merino lambs sold to $148/head.
There was 15,900 mixed quality sheep offered. The market was $10 to $20/head cheaper for the heavy and medium mutton. Light sheep sold unchanged to $5/head easier. Light sheep made $22 to $80 and medium mutton sold from $98 to $159/head. Heavy weight crossbred ewes sold from $136 to $180 and a pen of crossbred wethers made $220/head. Good Merino wethers made from $134 to $160/head.
