Can Farming and Mining coexist? - We have a dilemma. We have all this rich Wimmera and Mallee Farming Land where Farmers grow Food and Fibre not to feed the world (they do that anyway), but more to feed their families.
We are also starting to find out that there are a lot of valuable Minerals and Rare Earth under this wonderful Farming Country. The Miners want to dig down and get it, and the Farmers don't want the Land disturbed. Most Mines across Australia are in outback areas where the Land is much less valuable and productive. And that is no disrespect to this less productive country, but the country we are talking about here is a prime Agricultural Country.

So, is there a way that Farmers and Miners can coexist? Going by a few Farmers I have spoken to, the answer is a stern "no". But I think that Farmers need to be informed about what might happen and if there are any consequences or benefits.
If you are a Farmer in the Wimmera/Mallee area, I suggest you get along to this information night. See the flyer at the bottom of this page. It's a Farmers only event. It's a chance to get informed about the many new mining ventures that are popping up. Are you affected by any mining on your Land? Reply to dwaind@farmtender.com.au
