Buying Hay with DelayPay

Funnily enough, it was a conversation on buying and selling Hay with Dwain that crystallised how DelayPay would work back in that shed at Elmore nearly 4 years ago. It was June 2018, it was dry as chips and demand for Hay was high, especially in NSW and Queensland.

The thing about Hay is it's difficult to secure funding to be able to purchase it. It's not the kind of product that you can easily ring the bank or your broker for, as specialist "Stockfeed" finance products just don't exist off the shelf.

It was this problem that we initially set out to solve. It wasn't until later in the piece that we realised how well DelayPay could work for things like Machinery and Livestock as well!

Over the last 3.5 years over 25% of our transactions are related to stockfeed, with Hay playing a major role. One of the reasons DelayPay works so well for Hay is its flexibility. Private hay sales can be a tricky business often involving multiple loads, hard-to-pin-down quality results and high transport costs. This is the main reason that it's so hard to find anyone who is prepared to fund it. After all, it's not like a tractor or header with a serial number.

Still, we know that Stockfeed in most cases is purchased to feed cattle and sheep, who in today's market, hold plenty of value! So we think helping people to purchase inputs like Hay and pellets is a perfect way to use DelayPay.

Using DelayPay for Hay (or pellets for that matter) is easy. We work with your supplier to sort out the paperwork and how the transaction will work. We can go load by load or pay all at once for a larger contract if you need to lock a price in. We can do transactions from $5K to $250K, so we can work with small-scale purchases or larger consignments.

Finally, if you have the feed but need a mixer or some Feeders you can use the same product. It works exactly the same way, so it's easy to get yourself set up if you are looking at adding value in the paddock or expanding out the on-farm feedlot.
