Wagga saleyard recorded the lowest number of lambs and sheep on record. Due to Covid-19 very few processors operated, with many pen lots passed in. Well finished trade and heavy lambs were in short supply, while extra heavy lambs were few. There were limited supplies of restocking types throughout the yarding. Demand was weak, with many pens passed in.
The limited availability of good quality domestic lambs were unable to sustain last year’s prices. Prices generally slipped $16 to $32/head. Lambs 21kg to 24kg sold from $169 to $212/head to average 804c/kg cwt. Extra Heavy young lambs in wool sold to little competition. Extra heavy lambs sold from $220 to $300/head to average 805c to 868c/kg cwt. There was a very mixed selection of young lambs suitable for restockers. Store lambs returning to the paddock with some weight and frame sold from $150 to $175/head.
It was a mixed quality yarding of mutton that was offered to a very small group of buyers due to plant closures and lack of staff. Heavy ewes sold to very weak demand averaging 503c to 605c/kg cwt. Trade sheep made $102 to $140/head to average 529c/kg cwt.
