Yarding - 15,231 (-5519)
Lamb supply slipped below 10,000 yarded, quality was very mixed with the majority of the yarding mixed secondary types needing finish. Not all the usual buying group were present and not all active, bidding was quite erratic throughout the sale. Overall the market was $5 to $20/head softer across all categories. Light lambs under 18kg cwt sold to $25 cheaper in places, medium and heavy trade lambs were $6 to $15/head softer, with some sale still reaching 820c to 850c/kg cwt for the very neat short skin lambs with good cover and finish, that are in high demand. Heavy export lambs were in very limited supply and not a lot of weight yarded this week, selling to a top of $275 to be $5 to $10/head back on last weeks levels.
Store buyers were quite again week, lambs back to the paddock and to feed on made from $50 to $158, to $20/head cheaper. Light lambs under 18kg cwt to suit MK orders to the trade sold from $55 to $139, back $20/head. Trade lambs 18 to 22kg made from $138 to $184, lambs 22 to 24kg sold from $176 to $205, lambs 24 to 26kg made from $190 to $225/head, to average 770c to 800c/kg cwt. Export lambs 26 to 30kg made from $206 to $236 to average 760c to 780c/kg and over 30kg sold from $242 to $275, with an average range of 755c/kg cwt.
Sheep numbers increased to 5,800 the quality was mixed ranging from plain to good, buyers were selective, and bidding lacked intensity. Overall the market was $10 to $25 softer across the yarding. Merino wethers made from $44 to $167, to average 580c to 630c/kg cwt. Merino ewes sold from $52 to $179, and crossbred mutton made $78 to $219, to average 550c to 600c/kg cwt.
