Big yarding increase at Wagga Wagga

Yarding - 46,750 (+20,860)
Lambs - 40,950 (+18,950)
Sheep - 5800 (+1900)

Numbers doubled on the back of last weeks much dearer trends. Quality across trade categories was fair to excellent. Lambs weighing 26 to 30kg sold to erratic bidding with some buyers not prepared to chase the market. Lambs weighing more than 30kg were in good numbers, with most buyers keen to acquire a market share of the heaviest pens. A full field of buyers were in attendance, however there was very little restocker and feedlot competition.

In the trade market bidding was erratic. Longer wool lambs dragged prices back which contributed to the cheaper average prices. Lambs weighing 22 to 24kg slipped $10/head to average 841c/kg cwt. Merino trade lambs sold to a smaller group of buyers and most categories showed slightly weaker trends across all classes. Merino trade lambs weighing 22 to 24kg, averaged 715c/kg cwt while young lambs returning to the paddock sold from $109 to $194/head.

There was the usual field of export buyers in attendance and not all were operating fully. Heavy and extra heavy lambs sold to weaker demand from both domestic and export processors. Heavy 24 to 26kg sold $10/head cheaper to average 805c, while lambs weighing 26 to30kg sold to patchy demand, to average 740c/kg cwt. Extra heavy lambs over 30kg sold to steady bidding with some buyers very selective. The bulk sold from $210 to $290, with extra heavy Merino lambs making from $255 to $276/head.

It was another mixed quality yarding of mutton with heavy sheep in shorter supply. Not all buyers participated across heavy or trade categories. Most heavy sheep were small cleanout pens, with very few big runs on offer. Heavy ewes sold mostly to one major northern processor and made from $182 to $260/head to average 644c/kg cwt. Trade sheep sold either side of firm to average 672c to 705c/kg cwt.
