Big Water - I am going to write about something I know very little about. I actually find the Water industry very confusing, but I have never invested much time to learn about it though. But I figure if I write about it and get something wrong, someone will set the record straight.
The headline says Big Water, and from what I have read and have been told, it's becoming increasingly owned by the big end of town. Governments included.

I hear that well over 50 per cent of licenses in Australia are held by something like 20 multi-national companies. Whether it's that figure or something slightly less, then that's a staggering number. You will always get a good debate around letting foreigners own our Agricultural assets. Some say it's a free market, and they provide capital that we can't provide, and others will have the polar opposite view in that no foreigner should own anything.
And like we spoke about yesterday in our moral obligation story, Farmers own their Water and Land, and they get to make decisions about who they want to sell it to. It's like the ones selling Water to the government, I have heard a few say they didn't feel good about it, but it was an opportunity and who knows what each of our situations is. What are your thoughts about non-farming-related entities owning our Water assets? Reply to dwaind@farmtender.com.au
