Bidding was spirited for the better quality trade weight Lambs at Ballarat

Lambs - 50,000 (-448).
Sheep - 16,555 (+4483)

Lamb supply remained at 50,000, the quality was very good to excellent. All the usual buying group were in attendance, with extra store buyers present again this week, bidding was spirited for the better quality trade weight lambs with prices reaching over 800c/kg cwt in most weight categories. Competition for store lambs back to the paddock was extremely strong again this week to be firm to $8/head dearer to see prices well over 900c/kg cwt in places. Trade weight lambs were fully firm, heavy and extra heavy lambs sold $5 to $8 better to top $245/head. Sheep supply increased to 16,500 yarded, the quality was mixed, plenty of weight across the yarding. Competition was strong for heavy mutton with Merino’s to top at $237 and crossbred’s made to $243/head, over all the market was slightly softer to a week ago.

Orders for specialty feeders and restockers were strong on the light weight lambs back to the paddock. Those lines under 20kg sold from $79to $162, 20kg and over made from $156 to $188/head. Lambs suiting MK orders under 18kg sold from $136 to $154/head. Lambs to the trade 18 to 22kg sold from $149 to $178, 22 to 24kg made from $166 to $196 and 24 to 26kg sold from $186 to $218/head with a range of708c to 808c, to average 760c to 780c/kg cwt. Export 4 score 26 to 30kg lambs, sold from $206 to $239 and over 30kg made from $230 to$245/head to average 750c to 780c/kg cwt. Merino lambs under 20kg sold from $71 to $123 and 20kg and over made from $149 to$165/head. Hoggets sold to $230 for crossbreds and Merino’s sold to $178/head.

Heavy Merino wethers over 24kg sold from $176 to $238, with lighter weights made from $130 to $165/head, averaging 660c to 670c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $143 to $237/head, averaging from 630c to 660/kg cwt. Heavy crossbred ewes made from $138 to $243/head,to average from 640c to 650c/kg cwt. Merino rams sold to a top of $150/head.
