Lamb numbers increased to 15,490, with most of the lambs in very good condition, possessing good weight and shape. They exhibited good freshness in their skins; however, quality diminished towards the end of each agent’s run, resulting in plainer lots that lacked condition and showed dryness in the skins. All regular buyers were present and active, with additional competition from a northern buyer. There was strong demand for store and light trade lambs, which led processors to exert pressure on store buyers, increasing bidding intensity and resulting in a higher market across the yard.
Lambs destined for the paddock sold for prices ranging from $66 to $211, while lambs intended for feeding fetched between $215 and $268 per head, gaining between $8 and $12 per head. Light and medium trade lambs sold for $180 to $245 per head, showing an increase of $6 to $16. Heavy trade lambs sold for prices from $248 to $315 per head, gaining between $5 and $12, with average prices ranging from 1090c to 1150c/kg cwt. Sales for better quality lots even reached over 1200c/kg cwt.

Heavy export lambs weighing 26 to 30kg sold for between $289 and $341, reflecting a $10 increase and averaging 1120c/kg cwt. The very limited offering of lambs over 30kg sold for $350 to $356 per head, which was cheaper per head but more expensive per kg cwt. Old lambs and hoggets were limited, but quality improved this week, resulting in higher prices for better-presented lots, while prices for plainer types remained steady. Sheep numbers dropped to 6,590 offered, and quality varied. More buyers were active, resulting in a market that was $15 to $30 per head stronger across all weights and grades.
Merino wethers sold for prices between $128 and $257, averaging 740c to 770c/kg cwt. Lightweight Merino ewes sold for $142 to $190, while heavy-weight Merino ewes sold for $180 to $230 per head, averaging 770c to 820c/kg cwt. Light-weight Crossbred mutton sold for $168 to $215, while heavy mutton sold for $200 to $266, averaging 680c to 780c/kg cwt.
