Lamb supply increased to 25,600. The quality ranged from good to excellent. All the usual buying group attended in a market that started stronger with sales to $15/head better to then soften as the sale progressed. Bidding was erratic throughout the sale with prices fluctuating up and down across the trade weights. Overall the market ended firm to $8/head stronger in places. Light trade lambs sold firm to $8 better in places while medium trade sold to $6/head stronger and heavy trade sold firm to $5/head dearer. Heavy export lambs sold to a top of $275/head to hold firm.
Store buyers weren’t as active this week with lambs back to the paddock and to feed on sold from $62 to $176/head. Light lambs under 18kg cwt to suit MK orders to the trade sold from $127 to $156/head. Trade lambs 18 to 22kg made from $155 to $186, lambs 22 to 24kg sold from $176 to $200, lambs 24 to 26kg $190 to $216/head, with a wide range of 760c to 810c/kg cwt. Export lambs 26 to 30kg made from $208 to $236 and over 30kg sold from $232 to $275/head with an average range of 730c to 770c/kg cwt.
Sheep numbers remained similar with 7000 yarded and quality was mixed. Not all buyers were active in the market. Overall the market was softer across most weights and grades. Merino wethers were in good supply having the best of the mutton prices selling firm to a few dollars softer. Heavy Merino wethers made from $170 to $197/head to average 610c to 630c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $140 to $168/head to average 560c to 585c and heavy crossbred mutton made $162 to $213/head to average 550c to 580c/kg cwt.
