An icon is back - We have spoken about how rural communities need to have the energy to create events and things that bring people their way. Something the community can hang their hats on and something that brings them together. It's so important. My old town at Marnoo has one now in their Sheep Field Day event, which attracted nearly 1000 people last Friday. It will only get bigger.

This event we're about to feature was an icon for the small town of Wycheproof in the Victorian Mallee region. But this event went missing for a time (last run in 1988), but this morning we found it's that it's been reincarnated. So now, after a 35-year hiatus, the King of the Mountain is back.

Contestants lump 60kg (King) and 20kg (Queen) Wheat bags over the distance of 1 km up to the 43 metre-high Mt Wycheproof summit smack bang on the edge of town. The official website says, "The race is a true test of endurance, skill, and determination". In other words, it looks easy, but it ain't. Check out the wonderful photos from the past here. Or follow the Facebook page here. Let's hope it can reach those dizzy heights (and crowds) again.

The event is on Saturday the 30th of September, and overall there are 10 separate events and over $20,000 in prizemoney to boot. The winner of both the King and Queen of the Mountain receives $5000 each. Click here to enter. This is what small Farming communities can do. If you can, make sure you get along. What event/s does your community hang their hat on?
