Numbers fell significantly on the back of last week’s price correction. The market was erratic across all categories, with a key supermarket not operating and another only on the neater short skinned pens. Buyers were very selective and paid premium prices for shorter skinned lambs causing prices to spike at times $15 to $20/head. There was a good line up of heavy export lambs and despite less buying activity prices lifted to record a top price of $260

Trade competition was sporadic and prices fluctuated around quality. Trade lambs 21kg to 24kg sold from $154 to $179. Lambs 25kg to 26kg sold $6 dearer with few buyers interested in this category the bulk selling from $170 to $195.

In the heavy export market weight was the driving force behind the bursts of bidding. The bulk of the heavy export lambs were unchanged to dearer. Lambs 26kg to 30kg sold at $180 to $205/head. Over the 30kg made from $205 to $260/head.

The sheep market gathered pace, with a northern processors very strong on heavy categories. Stronger competition and good supplies of heavy mutton gave buyers plenty of choices. Heavy ewes and Merino Wethers sold from $150 to a top price of $217/head. Trade sheep with cover averaged around $125/head.
