Affecting the bottom line - We wrote about how Farming is losing out to Mining on the jobs front and got lots of replies about it. Some said it's also the Energy Industry, others said the Trades are hurting us too, and a couple said it's not as bad as we make out, which was encouraging. If you missed it, you can read the story here.

So, if we need staff and can't find them, at what point does it start hurting our Farm or Agricultural businesses? When does it begin dragging money off the table? When does it start hurting revenue, income and profits? An example might be that you can't get enough Grape Pickers, and you only pick half the Grapes, and it's too late to pick the rest. So half the production is lost. That would be an immediate impact.

Or could it be the Chaser Bin Driver gets crook and has to have 3 days off? You pull up the Chaser and effectively lose a day of productivity. Immediate also.

Or this one is what's probably playing out. You can't get anyone to fill a role or 2 on the Farm, so the 3 people who are currently doing all the work have to work harder to keep up and then in 2 years time, everyone is burnt out. The effects are probably not immediate because you are keeping up, because everyone is going harder. But when the burnout kicks in, production drops. Farming is tough enough for many right now, and if you're not in full production mode, then that affects the bottom line. Is the lack of people in your business affecting your bottom line?
