9000 new season Lambs at Wagga Wagga

Yarding - 46,000

The numbers for both lambs and sheep have increased. The yarding was quite mixed, featuring 9,000 new season lambs, two-thirds of which were stores. A significant highlight of the sale was the large quantities of young lambs, with some agents offering over 1,000 lambs to buyers. Prices for lambs with adequate weight and frame rose by $10 to $40. However, the remainder of the yarding generally lacked weight, and quality varied among agents.

New season trade lambs weighing 20–24 kg sold for prices ranging from $222 to $292, while the store segment fetched between $151 and $250 for the more mature types. Old trade lambs, also in the 20–24 kg range, sold from $208 to $298, with prices easing by an average of $4 per head. Old lambs weighing 24–26 kg saw a decrease of $16, making their prices range from $290 to $322 per head. Merino trade lambs sold for $192 to $282 per head.

On the export front, the numbers decreased. New season lambs weighing 26–30 kg sold for prices between $304 and $356, while those over 30 kg recorded a top price of $370 per head. Heavy old lambs experienced a downward trend, making between $320 and $392 per head.

The mutton sale provided buyers with a variety of weights and grades, with most of the usual processors participating. Trade sheep were well supplied, selling for $160 to $190 and averaging 746 cents per kilogram (cwt). Heavy crossbred ewes sold for prices between $188 and $266, while heavy Merino ewes commanded $200 to $250 per head. Large wethers were also in good supply, selling for $206 to $240 per head.
