7km run - I heard a talk from Liam Leneghan last week, who has a business called goFarm. They invest in and manage Farms for themselves and a group of investors. Their specialty is buying a group of rundown Farms, potentially changing up the enterprise and infrastructure and perhaps selling them off.

He was talking about this Cropping Farm they had in NSW where they ripped all the fences out and turned the whole thing into a 2 × 7km Cropping runs (14km all up) with what they called a super highway in the middle. It was a way to make the joint super efficient, he said. Not every Farm can be set up this way, but it got me thinking about how do we best set up our Farm so we can make it run at its efficient best.

Some of the Livestock guys use a laneway system and/or have containment Feeding options for the Summer and Autumn to protect their paddocks to grow more Grass. That model would be a form of efficiency.

And thinking about it further, there is always so much more we can do to make our Farms more efficient. I guess it's weighing up the cost of it all vs the return. It's like Cropping yields; we can always keep on improving. What are some of the efficiency gains you have made on your Farm? Reply to dwaind@farmtender.com.au
