$5 to $14 increase in Lambs at Ballarat

Yarding - 35,257 (-4619).

Lamb supply decreased to 25,600 yarded, the quality was mostly excellent, all the usual buying group attended in a very competitive market with strong demand on trade weight lambs which caused increased prices of $5 to $14/head across most categories, as processes were bidding on more weight to fill orders. Light trade lambs sold $5 to $10 dearer, Medium and heavy trade were $6 to $11 better and heavy and extra heavy sold $8 to $14/head stronger to top $314/head. Sheep supply decreased to 9,600 yarded, the quality was plain to very good.
Most processes were active, the market started softer and gained momentum as the sale progressed, with one exporter dropping in and out of the market throughout the sale, prices were varied light mutton gained and was slightly stronger, with heavy mutton softer in places. Merino mutton sold to a top of $250 and crossbred’s also $240/head.
Light weight lambs back to the paddock under 20kg, sold from $126 to $167, with 20kg and over making from $158 to $211/head. Lambs suiting MK orders under 18kg sold from $141 to $178/head. Lambs to the trade 18 to 22kg sold from $168 to $205, 22 to 24kg, made from $190 to $230/head to range from 800c to 958c to average from 860c to 900c/kg cwt. Lambs 24 to 26kg sold from $200 to $229/head. Export 4 score 26 to 30kg lambs, made from $232 to $266 to average 865c and over 30kg were selling from $255 to $314/head to average 815c/kg cwt. Heavy woolly lambs sold to a top of $217/head, with limited supply. Hoggets sold to $208 for crossbreds and Merino’s made to$160/head.
Heavy Merino wethers over 24kg sold from $155 to $250, with lighter weights making from $120 to $170/head, with a range of 640c to 660c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $170 to $250/head, to average from 630c to 660c/kg cwt. Heavy crossbred ewes made from $151 to $240/head, to average from 605c to 635c/kg cwt
