$424.20 Lambs, $320 Xbred Ewes and $284 Merino Ewes at Wagga Wagga

Lamb numbers increased slightly, and the overall quality improved, with more heavy and extra-heavy lambs coming off the feeders. Trade weights were well supplied, and there were reasonable numbers of lighter lambs, mostly Merinos. The market showed stronger trends.
A notable highlight was a pen of 131 XB lambs that sold for $424.20 per head, with an estimated weight of just under 40 kg. Trades were $15 to $20 dearer, with lambs weighing 20 to 24 kg selling for between $205 and $286 per head, averaging between 1050c and 1125c per kg.

Lambs weighing 24 to 26 kg sold for $260 to $309, averaging 1120c per kg, while heavy lambs up to 30 kg sold for $280 to $358 per head. The extra-heavy weights reached $424.20 per head, averaging 1080c per kg. Heavy Merino lambs reached $328 per head, and trade Merinos sold for between $202 and $266, averaging between 900c and 950c per kg for the 3 and 4 score lambs. The best-priced hogget reached $258 per head for heavy Merinos with a jacket.
Mutton numbers increased as well, though the quality was mixed. Prices varied throughout the sale, but the overall trend was stronger, with heavy ewes increasing by $20 to $30 per head and light to medium weights rising by $10. Very heavy crossbred ewes reached $320, while the best for Merinos reached $284 per head. Most sold between 680c and 770c, with several sales pushing into the low 800c per kg.
