Description
We are seeking an experienced and reliable cattle or sheep owner interested in a longer-term agistment arrangement. Free agistment would be offered in exchange for assisting with planning, arranging and overseeing the works required to make the property suitable for livestock or work in kind
The land is not presently ready to receive livestock. It currently has fencing along one boundary but does not have complete livestock-secure boundary fencing or established internal paddocks. There is an existing dam; however, a suitable system will likely be required to pump water from the dam to livestock troughs. Additional infrastructure may include fencing, gates, troughs, water tanks or pumps, stock-handling facilities and appropriate shelter.
The landowner is prepared to pay for agreed materials, equipment and contractors. The agistee’s contribution would primarily be practical livestock knowledge and assistance with specifying, arranging and/or overseeing the required works. The scope of work, expenditure and responsibilities would be agreed in writing before anything proceeds.
Number of livestock: To be agreed after the property has been inspected and the necessary fencing, water and other infrastructure have been established. Stocking levels will depend on livestock type and size, pasture availability, water capacity and seasonal conditions.
Pasture and soil: The property contains existing grazing land, but prospective agistees must inspect it and satisfy themselves regarding soil, pasture condition and suitability for their livestock. Pasture availability will vary seasonally, and supplementary feeding will remain the livestock owner’s responsibility if required.
Livestock care: The livestock owner will be responsible for regular inspection and care of their animals, including animal health and welfare, veterinary treatment, supplementary feeding, identification and regulatory compliance.
Weight gain: No particular weight gain or livestock performance is represented or guaranteed.
No livestock may be brought onto the property until the parties agree that adequate fencing, water and other necessary infrastructure are operational. A formal written agistment and works arrangement will document the agreed term, responsibilities, expenditure approvals, access, livestock care, maintenance and termination provisions.
This opportunity would best suit a local, experienced livestock owner interested in establishing a practical longer-term arrangement.
Please enquire with details of your livestock, experience, preferred term and how you could assist with establishing the property.
