The following article provides a practical example of independently observed in-service performance, illustrating how Rentar’s claimed benefits can translate into measurable results in a real operating environment.
Diesel price is now upwards of mid-$2 per litre at the pump, approximately 70% up on a year ago, and heading north, while El Niño conditions are expected to bring an earlier start, hotter seasonal conditions, and a later finish to the irrigation season, increasing the number of hours diesel pumps may need to operate.
That means the cost impact is twofold: more pump run-hours, plus a higher cost for every litre burned.
For growers relying on diesel pump irrigation, that combination will materially increase irrigation operating costs across the season, draining profitability.
Rentar offers a practical way to reduce that financial exposure.
Put simply, Rentar is a compact unit fitted onto the diesel fuel line, near the combustion chamber fuel inlet, and its’ imbedded rare Earth minerals condition the fuel so it burns more efficiently, enabling the pump to continue doing the same job, using fewer litres of diesel per operating hour, while also reducing GHG emissions such as CO2, and NOx, plus black smoke.
The reduction in fuel consumption is confirmed by local, Australian, testing undertaken by Farmers in Penola SA, on a 20-year-old Cummins water pump.
Fuel use was monitored in litres per hour under normal operating conditions, with the test recording a 16.6% reduction in diesel consumption per operating hour 28 days after installation, and after a further 12 months, the measured reduction in litres per hour had increased to 20.1%. Importantly, the Penola SA result also supports the broader commercial case for irrigators.
For financial modelling, a conservative 15% reduction in diesel litres per operating hour is used rather than relying on the higher long-term trial result, and under that approach Rentar can support payback of approximately one irrigation season on suitable moderate-duty pump applications.
Rentar is a once-only installation, on existing working diesel equipment, with no moving parts, or filters, neither preventative, nor repair maintenance is required, and delivers an expected operating life of more than 10 years.
That gives irrigators a way to reduce fuel use on the pumps they already own, rather than needing to replace productive plant to improve operating efficiency.
At current diesel prices, that matters more than ever, plus a hotter, and longer irrigation season, every extra hour of pumping increases diesel exposure, so reducing fuel consumed per operating hour becomes a direct way to soften the financial impact of both high fuel costs and El Niño-driven irrigation demand.
Rentar also reduces PM frequency on any fitted diesel engine, while increasing the operational life of that equipment, and is easily removed on disposal of the equipment, and fitted to any replacement, or alternative, diesel engine!
Rentar will not change the weather, nor bring diesel prices down, but the Penola SA test, plus many others, provides a strong practical indication that it can help reduce the effect of both - and do so with payback measured in roughly one irrigation season, not years.
