Grid plus 5kW Solar PV (ie typical today) : NPC = $73K,IC = $8, LCOE = $0.34 / kWh

Backstory.

The lithium titanate chemistry (LTO) used in tCell® was developed for the US Navy by Altairnano in the late 1990s. Due to cost and its slightly less energy density they were not able to fully commercialise it. Altairnano and their US patents were bought out by a major Chinese bus company (ZHYLE). LTO cycle life , huge throughput and cold performance make it perfect for heavy transport. They had the ability to mass produce it and reduce the cost. About 73% of all lithium ion battery chemical stocks originate in China. And within the lithium ion types we believe LTO variant is the only chemistry fit for the purpose of long term stationary storage. The Question. The most important question you need to ask is what is the total cost of the system over its project life. This can either be as Net Present Cost (lump sum now) or LCOE (energy cost per kW). And to know this , when batteries are involved you must know the battery fade. All batteries fade. The key measure is how many cycles to 80% SOH ie how many 100% full discharge /charge cycles until the battery capacity is 80% of new capacity. This is the only way to compare batteries and your supplier should issue this in writing.. tCell® is 20000 such cycles. It is this that delivers low cost, long term energy in a solar energised , tCell® stored, micro grid.
