Last trio left for 2025, these tame doelings are always in high demand!
CARING HOMES WANTED for our tame doeling Toggenburg called TINA and her baby wethers born Aug 2025. Tina has been fed separately since very young due to the big bad bullies eating all the food and is very cooperative on the trimming stand. She is a timid but gentle doeling. Her babies, however are as mad as hatters and generally run around squealing…especially when the naughty baby orphan hippo-lamb Ronnie visits them and chases them around. They will tame down very easily once they are seeking more food now, at weaning time is when they start to enter the trimming shed looking for more food. The trio will be ready to be rehomed in late October onwards, so the babies can be handled more intensively and learn to interact positively with us humans., instead of running away squealing…
Dam’s mother (Tinkerbell) has been CAE tested in May 2025 with negative outcome. All vaccinated with Glanvac 6 and wormed with Albendazole alternated with Ivermectin or Q-drench. Healthy, spiritely little springboks.
They have been born here and cared for at our not for profit livestock sanctuary in Berriwillock Vic.
We rehabilitate goats with poor nutritional intake or behavioural issues, by daily hand feeding and gentle, positive interactions with humans.
Diet includes a 2:1 Ca to P ratio, consisting of a customised mixture of soaked soybean meal, cracked lupins, wheat bran, lucerne chaff, Gumnut pellets and the occasional freshly picked aloe vera ferox to assist with vitality and healthy rumen function. This is a rich concentrate mix, designed for critically underweight rescue goats, with very little natural forage up here in the mallee - always check your feed ingredients with a vet to ensure what you are feeding in your particular region is a balanced Calcium to Phosphorus ratio with plenty of long stemmed hay. available. Natural forage provides a protein buffer, vitamins minerals and fibre and is great if you have some but we’re pretty arid up this way.
Photos are required of your facilities and land please. You also need to have photos of your trimming or milking stand as hoof maintenance is a critical component of goat care. Imbalanced phosphorus to calcium ratio in feed mixes are detrimental to poor hoof health, with too much calcium a risk of causing skeletal deformities and joint-related lameness in goats, which may present symptoms such as hoof calcification, arthritic symptoms and lameness. Then there’s hoof root and other bacterial infections, so it is vital you adequately care for their nutrition and trim their hooves.
Our goats have constant access to large bales of horse quality oaten or pasture hay and are supplied with smaller quantities of lucerne hay bales during kidding season. We prefer wethers to eat Teff hay if it’s available.
Please consider making a very small donation to our work - QR code is in photos.
Contact us if you have very secure fencing, adequate shelter, a trimming stand, patience and a big kind heart.
