The Farm Tender Hay Report – Comments from the coalface

Comments from the coalface

For the fortnight up to the 16th of January, 2019 - Volume 4.

This fortnight we consulted all our Farm Tender Sales representatives to give their opinion on where the Hay-market is right now

Shane Ruyg - Vic Mallee based
Shane said - Demand is lifting with dryer and hotter conditions creating uncertainty. Pricing remains strong depending on location. More de-stocking likely if the big dry continues. Lots of Hay stack fires happening in the Wimmera way due to rains in December which will decrease stocks levels. Also, alot of damaged stock from those rains starting to hit the market.

Bonnie Kenner - Central Vic based
Bonnie said - I have a fair bit of interest in Straw at the moment. I'm speaking to more people about grain at the moment rather than hay so much. People are keeping an eye out and grabbing hay parcels here and there when a good opportunity arises but being a bit picky now on both quality and price

John Drum - SA based
John said - For the first time in nine months there are more seller then buyers

Mike Pickard - Southern Queensland based
Mike said - Been no storm Rain across Darling Downs with sorghum crops dry off quickly. Some will take advantage of the opportunity to bale Sorghum Stubble after harvest as demand for hay picks up through Southern Queensland.

Increased inquiry is coming out of Northern NSW for Hay, especially in the Northern Tablelands through to Mullally.

Paul Grayling - Northern Vic based
Paul is on leave and was unavailable for comment
