Softer Lamb market but Sheep firm at Ballarat

Yarding - 40,442 (-6633).
Lambs - 28,785 (-4280).
Sheep - 11,657 (-2353).

Lamb numbers decreased this week to 28,785 yarded. The quality was mostly very good. Not all the usual buying group were in attendance to see a much softer market, with a drop of $15 to $30/head and more in places on last weeks market.

Light weight 1 and 2 score lambs, 12 to 18kg, sold from $124 to $163/head to average 900c/kg cwt. Trade lambs, 18 to 22kg, sold from $175to $203/head to average around 890c/kg cwt. Lambs 22 to 24kg, sold from $178 to $224/head to average around 850c/kg cwt. 4 score lambs, 24 to 26kg, sold from $210 to $232/head to average around 850c/kg cwt. Heavy 26 to 30kg lambs sold from $228 to $240/head to average 830c and over 30kg lambs sold from $244 to $290/head. Feeders and restockers paid from $101 to $180/head.

Sheep numbers also decreased with 11,657 yarded. The quality was plain to good in a firm market on last weeks levels. Light weight 1 score sheep sold from $56 to $136/head to average 700c/kg cwt. Medium weight sheep sold from $120 to $190/head, making from 600c to 779c to average 745c/kg cwt. Heavy sheep, 24 to 30kg, sold from $172 to $220/head and the over 30kg range sold from $223 to $276/head. Heavy Merino ewes averaged 750c, and heavy crossbred ewes averaged 720c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino wethers sold from $240 to $267 and medium weights sold from $176 to $240/head to average 760c/kg cwt. Rams sold to $150/head.
