Yarding - 16,454 (-5284).
Lambs - 10,757 (-2890).
Sheep - 5697 (-2394).

Further reduction in numbers, with 10,757 lambs and 5,697 sheep yarded. Several buyers who had been quiet recently showed more interest in securing numbers, leading to a dearer market across all categories. The heaviest lambs, which had been discounted in the past fortnight, were up to $30 dearer while the general run of tradeweight lambs gained $5 to $10/head. A highlight was demand for any well bred and finished light and medium weight domestic lambs which pushed over 700c/kg cwt at times. Significant price gains were also evident for mutton, with heavy ewes lifting by up to $30/head.

Heavy export lambs over 30kg cwt sold to $208 with four pens over $200/head. As a comparison, similar sized lambs a week ago reached just $184/head. The main run of heavy crossbred lambs, 26-30kg cwt, sold from $174 to $201 to average around $185/head. The next category down, 24-26kg cwt, made from $166 to $178/head. These heavy lambs were trending around 650c/kg cwt. Competition between buyers was keenest on trade weight lambs. The best run of 22-24kg cwt crossbred lambs made from $155 to $175/head at an estimated 670c to 680c, some pens over 700c/kg cwt. The pick of the light domestic lambs, 18-20kg, sold to $145/head, however they had to show good shape and finish to be at this money. Plainer light lambs mostly $120 to $138/head. The supply of quality small lambs remained very tight, and values for any suitable MK export stock did improve.

Bidding for heavy mutton was at much higher levels than the past fortnight. Heavy crossbred ewes $148 to $178, and Merino ewes $120 to $176/head. The main runs of heavy Merino ewes were estimated at 480c/kg cwt. The only soft spot in the market was for very plain and light sheep, showing the affects of the drought, which were cheaper in places.
