Sheep market super strong at Ballarat

Yarding - 14,800 (-6346).
Lambs - 12,000 (-1302).
Sheep - 2800 (-5044)

Lamb supply decreased to 12,000 yarded. The quality was very good. Most of the usual buying group attended, but not all were active. Light lambs were $5 to $10 dearer selling to a top of $175 and trade and heavy export lambs sold firm to $2 dearer to top $235/head. Excellent lines of merino lambs sold very well to be up $12 in places to a top of $206/head.

Feeders and restockers were active today with young lambs back to the paddock under 20kg sold from $103 to $164 and 20kg and over sold from $165 to $175/head. Young lambs to the trade 18 to 22kg sold from $152 to $172, 22 to 24kg sold from $173 to $190 and 24 to 26kgsold from $190 to $205/head with a range of 739c to 822c/kg cwt. Export 26 to 30kg, sold from $202 to $215 and export lambs 30kg Andover sold to $235/head. Merino lambs under 18kg sold from $108 to $138 and 18kg and over sold from $133 to $206/head. Old season lambs are starting to fade out selling firm.

Sheep supply also decreased to 2,800 yarded. the quality was mostly very good across the yarding. Strong competition from export buyers causing the market to increase up $10 to $15/head and more in places on last weeks levels. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $136 to $170/head, to average around 570c/kg cwt. Heavy crossbred ewes made from $128 to $234/head, to average 520c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino wethers sold from $145 to $205/head. Rams sold to $120 for Merinos and $50/head for crossbreds.
