New record of $380 a head for Lambs at Ballarat

Agents penned reduced numbers; however, the high quality remains week on week. The regular field of buyers were present and keen to participate setting a new record lambs paying $380/head for a magnificent pen of heavy export types. The market was firm to dearer with some significant price lifts across the sale.

A good supply of trade lambs were on offer selling up to $2/head dearer. Light and medium trade sold from $173 to $218 and the 22 to 24kglambs made from $211 to $239/head to average 958c/kg cwt. Competition between domestic and export processors was evident in the heavy lamb run with lifts of $6 selling from $233 to $255/head. Export processors were offered a beautiful line up of extra heavy lambs this week with the 26 to 30kg lambs making from $248 to $282 and the over 30kg lambs sold from $279 to $380, increasing $29/head to average 967c/kg cwt. Strong competition on the light lambs resulted in lifts up to $9 for lambs to the processors, selling from $158 to $176/head.Lambs over 18kg going to feedlot buyers were selling from $182 to $239 and the very light lambs to the restockers were making from $59 to$188/head.

A good mixed selection of sheep were offered selling in a stronger market across all weights. Heavy 4 score crossbred ewes reached $286 to average 687c/kg cwt, jumping $25/head. Merino 4 score ewes gained $14 selling from $180 to $232/head. 2 and 3 score mutton sold in an erratic market making from $126 to $188, improving $17/head in places, selling up to 810c/kg cwt.
