Market cheaper for Sheep as more new season Lambs come onto the market at Ballarat

Yarding - 13,680 (+3,864).

Lambs - 7,095 (+2,701).

Sheep - 6,585 (+1,163).

Lamb numbers increased this week to 7,095, starting to see new seasons lambs yarded, with fewer old seasons lambs on offer. The quality was plain to very good with the usual buying group in attendance and operating in a firm to slightly cheaper trend on the old seasons lambs. Heavy new season lambs sold up to $239 and the old season lambs made up to $240/head on the heavy short skin well presented types.

New seasons lambs, 18-22kg, sold from $146 to $171 and 22-24kg sold from $170 to $191/head to average around 780c/kg cwt. Heavy trade lambs, 24-26kg, sold from $191 to $221 and the export lambs, 26-30kg, sold from $228 to $239/head to average approximately 820c/kg cwt.

 Light weight 2 score old season lambs, 12-18kg, sold from $108 to $139/head. Light trade 2 and 3 score lambs, 18-22kg, made from $137 to$177 to average around 760c/kg cwt. Medium trade weight 3 and 4 score lambs, 22-24kg, sold from $175 to $189/head, making from 761c to791c to average approximately 770c/kg cwt. Heavy 3 and 4 score trade weight lambs, 24-26kg, sold from $190 to $208/head to average approximately 765c/kg cwt. Export lambs, 26-30kg, sold from $212 to $240/head to average around 805c/kg cwt. Merino Hoggets sold from$63 to 126/head and crossbreds made from $86 to $191/head.

Sheep supply also increased this week to 6,585. Quality was plain to good with large numbers of heavy Merino ewes and wethers on offer, as well as heavy crossbred sheep. The market was approximately 20c/kg cwt cheaper on last week's levels in places. Light weight 1 and 2 score sheep made from $73 to $115 to average 520c/kg cwt, with very light 1 score making from $21 to $56/head. Medium weight 2 and 3 score sheep sold from $103 to $138/head, with Merino mutton averaging around 530c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $135 to $148/head, averaging 540c/kg. Heavy crossbred ewes sold from $116 to $160/head. Heavy Merino wethers made from $136 to $164, medium weights sold from $114 to $137/head to average approximately 545c/kg cwt. Rams sold from $20 to $136 and Ram lambs made from $85 to$166/head.
