Lambs firm in large yarding at Ballarat

Yarding - 62,520 (+12,271).
Lambs - 50,488 (+13,977).
Sheep - 12,072 (-1706)
Lamb supply jumped to 50,400 yarded, 14,000 more than last week. The quality was excellent across all weights and grades. All the usual buying group attended, with extra processes and store buyers present and all operating in a market that started softer and gained as the sale went on to be another very strong market with prices holding firm to slightly dearer in all categories. Competition for the store lambs back to the paddock was extremely strong again this week to be firm to $5/head dearer. Trade weight lambs were firm to $8 dearer in places and extra heavy lambs holding firm to $5 better to top $249/head.
Sheep supply increased to 12,000 yarded, the quality was plain to very good, with plenty of weight offered across the yarding. All the usual buyers were present, in a mostly unchanged market to a week ago. Feeders and restockers were very active on the light weight lambs back to the paddock, under 20kg sold from $111 to $174, 20kg and over made to $207/head. Lambs suiting MK orders under 18kg sold from $115 to $159/head. Lambs to the trade 18 to 22kg sold from $144 to$177, 22 to 24kg, made from $166 to $195 and 24 to 26kg selling from $188 to $209/head with a range of 727c to 826c, to average 760c to780c/kg cwt. Export 4 score 26 to 30kg lambs, sold from $198 to $229 and over 30kg sold from $230 to $249/head to average 745c to760c/kg cwt. Merino lambs under 20kg sold to $149/head. Hoggets sold to $224 for crossbreds and Merinos made to $184/head.
Heavy Merino wethers over 24kg sold from $171 to $240, with lighter weights making from $138 to $162/head, to average 660c to 680c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $170 to $217/head, averaging from 650c to 670/kg cwt. Heavy crossbred ewes made from $150 to$250/head, to average from 630c to 640c/kg cwt. Merino rams sold to a top of $175/head
